Shuai Jiao - 1958 All-China Championships - Poster

€19.00

Shuai Jiao (Chinese Wrestling) has a long and interesting history stemming from it’s Mongolian and Manchu roots. Shuai Jiao was most notably established by the Qing Dynasty elite imperial wrestlers, the Shan Pu Ying. In the Republican era (post 1911) the art left the imperial palace and became a popular practice among the common folk in Beijing and Tianjin and was officially included in the national martial art movement. This poster is a restoration and replica of the official poster for the All-China Shuai Jiao Championships of 1958 which took place in Tianjin from October 5th to the 12th. The poster features two wrestlers in a match, the one on the front being the esteemed martial artist Zhang Wenguang, who was a graduate of the Nanjing Guoshu Institute who performed Chinese martial arts at the Berlin Olympic Games in 1936 and went on to be the head martial arts professor at the Beijing Sport University. He was a Hui martial arts master who excelled at Shuai Jiao and published works on the art in the Republican era.

This poster has been carefully reproduced from the original and is a time capsule into that period.

This poster is a high quality print for you to hang in your school or home. Display your admiration for Shuai Jiao proudly.
